RTBF (Brussels)

FAR carried out the total renovation of the RTBF's public radio studio acoustics. The room in which FAR installed this ajustable acoustic system is more than 1000 cubic meters in volume.

Three SCHROEDER diffusers can be moved from the top left hand corner of the room to the top right hand corner. Three oscillating panels activated by motors can be tilted to a maximum of 90°, the bottom remaining stationary.

The tuning frequency of these oscillating panels has been calculated in order not to modify the original acoustics that were highly appreciated by the sound engineers.

This room, originally dead, was used to record dramas, for which the sound was perfect. In order to make the room usable for musicians, a system had to be designed that could accommodate their instruments and their ability to perceive the sound and then have the ability to be readjusted to work as it did originally. This was a major undertaking that involved a close partnership between the FAR technical team and RTBF engineers.
