Alfacam OB 17 Audio Van

FAR has finished the design and the installation of the acoustic of the OB 17, a fully sound dedicated OB van. The owner of this truck is the worldwide renowned European company Alfacam.

Karin Stoop is the manager of Alfacam, she manages a fleet large of 18 OB Van. Alfacam operates across all specialist fields like sports, shows and concerts. Mr FEHERVARI the Owner of Alfacam is also launching the first European high definition digital television, HDTV channel EURO 1080

Motor Music Mobile was responsible for designing and building the technical part of the OB 17. They also take care of the operational side. All technical specifications about acoustic written by Jean-Philippe Ovaert were hardly restricting and difficult to Obtain. The goal was to get from the very small volume of the OB Van a similar quality than in a good recording studio. The entire system must be 5.1 Surround compatible. The design was tuned around three basic principles.

Reducing the first reflection from speakers position down to 150 Hz
Diffusing all rear reflections above 150 Hz and absorbing enough frequencies below 150 Hz
Reducing furniture effects

As the space is really tiny everything must be optimised and specific solution has been used to provide the best efficiency. This is why helmoltz resonators and absorptive panels were calculated and positioned with great precision. In such environment, it is of prime importance to use high resistance but still acoustic proof materials. The measurement shows the great qualities of the acoustic even in 5+1 use.The system already received the Dolby acceptance.

Dirk Sykora from Motor Music Mobile already worked with many different OB van and he says: "The OB 17 is working like a real studio. It is smaller, much smaller but the sound quality is the one of a real studio. Steven Maes also from Motor Music mixed the famous rock in Rio concert with Paul Mc Cartney, Peter Gabriel, Sting, Metallica,…. "The sound is great, and there is no surprise between the sound in the OB van and out of it." Other jobs like the prestigious New Year concert in Vienna were performed in the OB 17 sound mobile. The job was a live 5.0 mix together with a direct stereo mix live on air.

FAR took this difficult challenge up and is proud to announce its successful result. As manager of FAR I can say that we have one more string at our bow, the OB van acoustic design. Thanks to our acoustic skills we can afford various and different kind of projects.
